RETRENCHMENT POLICY.
A PROTEST. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, May IS. A deputation from the Chamber of Commerce waited on the, Hon. Dr. Eindlay this morning regarding tho bankruptcy laws, urging that it would he a retrograde step to allow the Public Trustee and his officers to be utilised as Official Assignees. * They also urged the appointment of approved and registered Trade Assignees. The Hon. Dr. Findlay replied that the Premier had not made any definite statement of his intention, but one 6i his opinions was that economy would be iffeeted-by abolishing independent offieialAssignees and doing work througn the Public Trust Office. What they had urged would receive Cabinet consideration.
