Constable Douglas, of Hikurangi, had to perform a very gruesome task yesterday. The body of a Maori man -who had been dead for some time, was found in a whare in the heart of the Puhipuhu bush. As the other Maoris refused to have anything to do with' the body, the constable had to carry it on his saddle over four miles. At the inquest the jury returned a verdict that deceased died from want of nourishment. WELLINGTON,, May 14. Word from Wairoa states that Robert Mclntyre, shepherd on the Ormonds station, left to go to Waikokopu, and that bis riderless horse has been found. It is feared that -he is drowned.
