THE LICENSING ACT.
WHOLESALE LICENSE IIEI'TSED. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, May 8. At a specially convened meeting, of the City Licensing Committee, an application for a wholesale license was made on behalf of Mr Avison, storekeeper. On the committee expressing an objection to granting a license to premises connected with a retail grocery business, Mr Menteath, solicitor, submitted that the committee, by refusing a license on such grounds, was virtually creating law instead of administering it. He asked that the committee in their refusal would apply to the Supreme Court for a ruling. The committee adhered to their decision and refused the application.
