ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES
l'er Press Association. DANNEVIRKE, April 15. Thomas Gebbie, aged 79, an old age pensioner, fell dead in the street today. He had complained - of internal pains the previous evening, but was walking about apparently all right. He expired before a. doctor arrived. Death was attributed to syncope.
NAPIER, April 15,
An inquest was held this morning before Mr W. Brabant, Coroner, on the body of the late Claudius Walter Cato, #h6 died, yesterday as the result of a revolver 'shot. Constable Hodgson stated that he had searched the clothing of deceased and found two promissory notes, a telegram and a memo' relating to money matters. ■ The telegram was figned "Cooks" Auckland and stated "bank wires your cheque not provided for: reply.'' The Coroner returned the following That deceased died from the. effects'of a bullet wound which wound traversed the brain and was inflicted by himself."
A distressing' accident occurred to the little son of Mr Duff., of Edievale. last, week. Jt appears that the child had gone to the harvest field aiid fallen asleep in the crop, and the reaper and binder by some" means almost rmsscd over him, severely lacerating his limbs. The Sufferer was at once taken by motor car to- Tapamii. where surgical assistance was procured, and he is now progressing favourably.
