AUCKLAND, April 15., A large number of Maoris are assembled'at Himtly, the object of the meeting being to facilitate the. settlement Of unoccupied native lands under the provisions of the new Act by which one-third remains' in the possession ol the natives, one-third. is leased, and one-third is sold. "King" Malmta and Mr -llonare Kaihaii are leaders ol' tho movement. Mr Ngata and Dr Buiek M.P. will arrive to-morrow and the business of the meeting will not commence till then.
WELLINGTON", April 15. The Marine Demrtment is advised that the captain of the Cygnet, which narrowly escaped capsizing at ATcaron on Monday j was -cautioned against overloading-' his vessel. If the' Department find that there lias been a breach of the regulations action v.-ill be taken.. ' '
