FIRE RATES.

Ta BE RAISED.. - Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Feb. 27. The council of the Fire Underwriters' Association has concluded its sittings. It is well-known says the "Evening Post" that much of the time of the conference was taken up in discussing the question of raising the,'rates and a scheme to that effect was drafted. It appears that there was not absolute unanimity of opinion on the subject, and until the proposals outlined have received consideration by several of the companies interested, no definite statement on the subject can be made. That an increase of rate will be made is generally regarded as a certainty, as to the details of the increases or when they will come into force even the insurance people arc in doubt. ,
