PLEASANT POINT.
SCHOOL COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Pleasant Point District Higli School Committee was held on Tuesday evening. All the members were present, Mr G. Saunders, being in the chair. It was decided to proceed at once with erection of netting, etc., for the' tennis court. The visitor for the month, Mr J. Chisholm, reported on several matters in connection with the sanitary arrangements and suggested certain improvements. Mr Gill's report on the High School was read, and considered highly satis* factory. The headmaster reported on the successes of pupils in examinations: — Bernard Jones (aged 15 years) passed all the Senior Civil Service examination at one sitting. Edward Sullivan passed three subjects in the same examination. Miss Pelvin passed in two subjects for C certificate and completed D. Four of the school girls—Anna Geaney, JDonella Brown, Constance Beck, and Violet Jessep—obtained partial P. . For second year in succession all matriculation students passed, the successful candidates this year being: Margaret Kennedy,- Arietta Cartwright, and Catharine Gibson. In Junior Civil Service three pupils were successful: .Bernard Jones (33rd), and Edward Sullivan (54th) and Edith Mailing; Jones and Sullivan were in the credit listt For senior scholarship: W. Cartwriglit, AV. Gallen, M. O'Connor, R. Baker, and I. Crozier qualified. John Steven won the junior national scholarship. Four other pupils qualified for junior scholarships: Norah Angland, May Wells, Ebbie'Jackson, and Gena Boddy, the first three being granted Education Board scholarships. . He also reported -that five of the High School girls (Minnie Dunn, Anna Geaney, D. ' Brown, C. Beck and P. Jessep) had been appointed P.T.'s or probationers in South Canterbury schools. Sullivan and Jones had been offered positions in the Government service. Jones had refused and had returned to school, and Sullivan had been appointed to the Customs in Auckland. Miss McKih'b'in, 8.A., commenced duty on February sth, in. the secondary department," The High School roll number was 4T, and now that an extra assistant had been appointed the work should proceed smoothlv.
The'members expressed themselves as pleased with the results, and a vote of congratulation was passed to the staff.
