THE LONDON MARKETS. Press Association-"By Telegraph-Copyrif>\t LONDON, Jan. 22. The wheat market is quiet and inactive. Buyers are cautious in view of approaching big Argentine shipments and Australia's large exports. There is a fair enquiry for cargoes at 36s 6d, and 37s 6d is. asked for Australian new wheat afloat; 37s for JanuaryFebruary shipments. There is small business for -Australian on spot at 40s to 40s 6d. Flour is steady. Australian is scarce, and is quoted on spot at London at 275; at Glasgow 28s. Butter is firm, but prices generally arc unchanged. Colonial is rather slow of sale; New Zealand choicest 112s, occasionally 114s per ewt.
The underwriters allowed 10s to 12s per cwt on the Paparoa's butter in holds Nos. 1 and 2, and 40s to 60s in holds Nos. 3 and 5; 6d on the cheese in holds Nos. 1 and 2, and 15s on hold No. 3. "
The cheese market is firm. The Corinthic's cheese soM at 60s to 61s, aud the Paparoa's sound cheese at 58s. ■ ■ ■ '-■'■■' '■■

The Bradford wool market is quiet and unchanged. A few topinakers suggest higher quotation's. Tho Rimuroa clip at the London sales realised 10Jd. At the London wool sales there is less irregularity. Prices of merinos are firm. Americans are competing very strongly for crosshreds. A BRIGHT OUTLOOK. SYDNEY, Jan. 23. At a .meeting of the Joint Stock Rank, the chairman declared that the outlook for Australian banking was never better, and general business prospects were propitious. The bank was ■preparing a scheme to cope with increased business.
