DFNEDIN, Dee. -29. The morning session was devoted to t unfinished games in the second round. Kelling v. Barnes (King's gambit declined). —Forsvth lost the exchange in getting rid of a dangerous bishop, v He lost the exchange again shortly afterwards, and resigned on the 35th move. The third round resulted* as follows -.—Barnes v. Kelling (Caro Kami defence). —Otv the '2"th .move. Barnes took his opponent's rook under the mistaken impression that he was giving check, and thereby lust his queen and the game. Movies v. Mason (Ruy Lopez).—Mason's knight got into trouble on the 11th move, and his effort* to extricate gave Davies an opportunity of attacking-strongly.- Mason resigned oil the f'th move, being 'tumble to prevent a pawn from queening. Dodds v. Fox (Guioco Piano).—Fox lost a knight by hasty play, but by sacrificing a bishop later lie won brilliantly on the 2oth move. Edwards v. Forsyth (Zukertort's owning).—A very tough g::me. Edwards advanced his kings side pawns, thereby keeping Forsyth's forces especially bis bishops inoperative. The latter succumbed on the fiftieth move. Griersoit had a bye.
