The recent tightass of money does not seem to be calling forth many complaints from- Wellington tradespeople, who' say that the Christmas turnover was satisfactory,' but remark that the was principally for smaller articles. ** There was very little extravagant expenditure,'.but: the. outlay was on reasonable seasonable luxuries for home consumption, or for the benefit of friends and' relatives. .Apparently it was sufficient- to well please many shopkeepers, who said that the people had money, but were ; more cautious than usual" in ' its ' allocation.

The Minister of Justice intimates that the Governor has remitted the fine of £l2 10s imposed on Haakon Haakensen for dealing-in. uncustomed, tobacco.
