The death is reported of Air Claus Spreckels, of the Oceanic Steamship Company of San Francisco. It is supposed he left £10.000,000.
Born at Lamstedt. Hanover, in 1828. Claus Spreckels went to the United. •States? in 1546. amUwas employed at Charleston, S.C., and New York. He went to San Francisco in ISofi and conducted a store, and later a brewery. He established the Bay Sugar' Refinery; procuring raw material from Hawaii, acquired' sugar properties in Hawaii, owned a licet sugar farm of 30,000. acres, and a factory at Wiitsonville, Salinas. California. He was .also-aft owner in the Oceanic Steamship Company, which runs between San Francisco and 'Honolulu, and formerly carried the mails .between San Francisco and' Now' Zealand.
