THE APPEAL TO OTHER UNION'S. GENERAL REFUSAL TO STRIKE. Per Press Association. GfiEYMOUTH, March 50. At » largely attended meeting of tli-o Bnmner Miners* Union on Saturday afternoon, 'U motion was moved as follows: "That the Blackball Union be informed that this Union cannot entertain such; a proposal as it is not iu accordance with toe Industrial Arbitration and Conciliation Art, and the Union does not favour cancellation, and until such cancellation, we are bound to abide by the Act." An amendment was moved a* follows -. "That we respectfully request the management to refrain from supplying orders from the Blackball Coal Company, and that an early reply be requested." In the discussion that followed, no one was in favour of a strike which it whs recognised would be a very foolish .-ten to take. Mr Russell, the director of tho mine was not present at the meeting, nor were representatives of the Blackball miners. " Many married miners who opposed the strike came to town as usual, knowing
that the Blackball proposal would be rejected by an overwhelming majority. This proved to be the case, the voting being 87 to 12. i .AFFAIRS STILL QUIET. GREYMOUTH, March 3a . Nothing further transpired during the day regarding strike matters. Very little discnsaipn was going on amongst townspeople except quiet congratulations that affairs had turned out satsifactorily. Nothing had taken place at Blackball during the day, no overtures of any kind being mads- to the manager nor did nay meeting of the miners appear to have been held. At a special meeting of the Waflii Miners? Union to consider the .question of financial assistance to the Blackball Uniod it' was- unanimously resolved to levy a shilling per member while the strike continues. -It was also resolved that a copy of the following resolutions be sent io tlie Minister of Labour: "Tliat the Arbitration Act requires amending in the direction of placing employers on the same footing as employees; that the Union has no confidence in the president of the Court.''
The number of members of the Waihi Union is 1000, and the levy will produce £SO per week.
NO SYMPATHY FROM PRINTERS. CHRISTCHURCH, March 30. The Committee of the* Canterbury Typographical Association on Saturday evening received a letter from the Trades and Labour Council asking assistance for the Blackball strikers. It was unanimously resolved that tl»e 'Association had no sympathy with the Blackball miners in their action, and could no£ therefore grant them any monetary help. '
