BURNT-OUT SETTLERS.
ASSISTED BY THE STATE. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, March 30. Up to the present 348 burnt out settlers hi the Wellington land district have been furnished by the State with grats seed of a total value of £9955. Applications for at>.«ibtauce close to-morrow. The Wellington district appears to have suffered most from the fires judging by the applications for assistance. About twenty settlers in Hnwkcs Bay have been relieved. Up to March 19tli, there had been forty casts (representing £1500) dealt with in Auckland, 93 in Taranaki (involving £1300). 16 in Marlborough (£1400), and 51 in Xelxon (£800). Tints? totals will ba considerably inirir.isf.-d by the additional applications which have been received since the 19th instant.
