WESLEYAN GARDEN PARTY.
The .annual garden party of the. Timaru Wesieyan Church Laaies' Guild was held yestiiUay afternoon, on Mr C. Bowker's pretty and convenient grounds, "The Pines,"' College Road. xhe .afieru'oon was well'-suited' for the purpcce, the weather being all that could be desired, and there was- a good attendance, especially oi. ladies. ihere were ,of coun-e, not so many visitors as last year, when tne sitting of the bynod at. Timaru gave ihe gatiieiing more importance. Mr and .urs J3owJvei -made eveiydne very welcome, and thei Guild and : tiieir assistants, had made" many pi'eparatioi.ij tor enab.ing' their Inerids to ispciid an hour or two very pleasantly. A few games were provided; a flag drill, a cuince, anu a pos.er and tancv CiTtiis march reproduced two of the features of the Jat© scnooi gar den party: a Christmas tree and a small stall of. work arid souvenirs offered opportunities for investing small 'stuns • a marquee accoiiiinodated relays of sitters for afternoon- tea, ' and "another furnished refreshments at a cheaper .rats to juveniles, -.-yd orchestra played some nice music, that appeared to be very inueh nicer than it tyoiild have ii: p.ayed within reverberating walls! Inspection of the well-kept grounds, shrubbery, garden, vinery, and greenhou.se -and fernery helped to till, in .he atteinoon' agreeably, and the;.-Guilds party was votea a success in every way. ine afternoon tea was provided by members 'of the. Guild, and was dispensed under thedirection of Mrs 1. YVagstaff, with a numerous ■•Staff, whom......ivu-- js\ Smith energetically assisted. The .children's- reiresnnients were in charge oi Mesdam.ij, i'eniose,' holdgate, and; i-tau-clitfc, and Mus Holdgate. The Christmas iree (stocked by tlie Young sVomen'a Bible Class) and stall were managed bv Mrs Newnliam. The maypole dance wa; ; directed by Miss Avison, the llag drill by Miss lfi. Holdgate, and the poster march by jMii-s- Shatcliffe, Mr Kane jtuning a- hand" with an amusing practice byf.a miniatuie "T.Y.E.8." The Rev. S. J. Serpell and' Rev. Mr Haelam, and an olu "friend of the church, Mr J. Brown of Temuka, were, among those present.
