Yesterday proved to be a. red • letter day in ilia history of the Kin Toa Bowling Club, as the members tlierof essayed for the first time to do battle for the honours of the Club by meeting the lemuka Club on the latter's green. As yet the. Kia Toa green is only a bed of shingle, by the kindness and courtesy of the Timaru Club the Kia Toa's are allowed to practice on the old green until their own is ready and every afternoon of late lias Witnessed the colts being initiated into the mysteries of the game. The mat'bli between Temuka and Kia Toa was very evenly contested, with the result ..that after a • very hard fought battle Temuka went- down by 15; points. Any expert might have advanced the opinion that 110 brilliant play war> visible on either side, but Caesar always magnified hi* ehenikts—when" he had defeated them —and one Kia Toan colt was heard to remark to another: "My word, there are some tough rags in the Temuka team, but when they meet Kia Toa something has to go." Temuka is famous for its hospitality, but on this occasion the ladies excelled themselves. Afternoon tea, was provided by Mesdames Sim and Lashlie and' Miss Coopsr, and judging by the way the viands disappeared everything .. must have been firpt- clii-ss. At. the close of the match. Mr McCalion, vice-president, returned thanks', on behalf of the Kia J.'oas for. the veiy enjoyable, afternoon's outing, '..-ije hoped that Kia Toa would b3- able to return; tlie compliment before the end of the season. ■Mr. H.
