S.C.A.A.C, . . About a dozen members of, tlie South Canterbury Amateur- Athletic, -Club were present at the; annual/meeting held last evening. Mr G. R. M.' Jones occupied the chair. .
Report and boilance sheet showed that tbe Club was in a good financial position. The entries for sports and bye meetings were large ani'.competition keen, but attendance of the public was (small, only £12,2s 6d being ta,ken at the gators. The date of the annual, sports was changed from 16ih" December to an ordinary Thursday. " The evening sports were a success as far as the sport, but not- as far as the attendance was concerned. The aggregate prize for most points at the bve-meetings was won by W. Walsh (9? points), T. McWhirter (9 points) second* The Ttschemaker cup was won by Trembarfch, of Gore. Mr C. Mr Dunn mentioned that a meeting* would be called shortly to form a Sports' Protection Association", and he suggested that this Association should send a delegate to the- meeting. Dr Thoma,s said that the balance sheet showed that they were practically £3O to the bad. Mr Dunn said • they were in much the same position as at- the end of last year. If they conducted' the next meeting in a judicious manner .they would come out square. Mr Holderness seconded ; the adoption of the report, and the motion was- carried. Three new members were elected, Messrs Wakeham, Harvey and Hart. The election of officers resulted in Mr G. R. M. Jones being elected president; Mr F. J. Dunn, vice-president; ■ Mr T. N A. Frilset' said that the sclioola would run their tfWn sports if the 'Club did not cater for t-heni. It being;.'the feeling of the meeting that the Club should combine with a cbinmittec of school .teachers it"was decided to leave the matter to the sub-committee to arrange. The date of the sporCS"" was also left to the committee.
With reference to bye-meetings Mr Dunn thought th£&o 'should be abolished. If arrangements could be made -for some amateUK events at Temuka on Boxing Day that was all they required. —A motion that no bye-meetings be held, was carried. A motion; by Mr Dunn that no medal be awarded with the championship cup, was negatived, but it was decided to reduce the value of the medal. 'The''-procuring of material, was left to the committee, and also the raising of •funds by an overdraft of £SO. Votes of thanks lo the donors of prizes and officials closed the meeting.
