BOWLING.
The Tiinuru Bowling Club opened the season yesterday afternoon by a match, president v. vice-president. Before commencing play? the vice-president, Mr M. White, apologised for the absence of the president (who was in Wellington), and made a, few remarks of encouragement on the ■satisfactory outlook for bowling in Timaru. There Yras bub a moderate attendance of players when sides were chosen, and four "rinks only were occupied' for the match, a fifth being taken up by later arrivals. There was a -fair attendance of onlookers, including a good proportion of ladies. The green was in very good ord'er —membeia said it was never in better order at the beginning of a season — and its smooth expanse of green looked very nice indeed in • the fine afternoon. Afternoon tea was. provided by Mrs Evans, and was evidently fully appreciated. The old players showed good form, and some excellent play was seen, including some quite brilliant .shots. Skips and scores were as follows (president v. yicep:evident) :—Ferguson 19 v. Gillies 23, Sea ley 18 v. Courtis 16, Gbw 27 v: Gabites 13. McHutchesoii 19 v. Pringle 18; totals,: 83—70.
