MALTHOID.

To the Editor of the Timaru Herald: Sir,—As the paragraph published in. your issue of 6th inst. relative to my interview with the Borough Councillors. in connection with the me of "Malthoid" as a roofmaterial may lead to a misunderstanding, I trust yon" will publish this explanation. You reported' l as having waited on the Timaru Borough Council to endeavour to induce them to 'accept " Maltlioid " : as an incombustible roofing- material. This is net correct., -What I . stated was <hut " Malthoid,". if properly laid • on a-roof, wouM act as a fir-j resistant and I proved this conclusively to the Mayor and Councillors by igniting clusters of matches on the surface of the material, also at the spot where die edges of the " Malthoid" were lapped and cemented. ; I understand after I . left the Council Chamber, one of the Councillors put a. lighted match to a., naked edge of sample, which liad been left exposed. I liad previously demonstrated to the Council that all edges were nailed to t niber and then covered with solution, thus preventing any risk of ignition at edge of material when u ; ed as a roof covering. I think it is due to my Company's local Agents, Messrs Priest' and Holdgate, that this explanation should be published as the wording of the paragraph alluded to, I think you will admit, will prove detrimental to sale of "Malthoid" roofing.—l am, C ' C '' ' ROBT..
