Crump, who is charged with the murder at Portsmouth ;of Mrs Moriarty Crump, written from Auckland on 21st - January last just prior to his leading for England in the Rimutakrii. In it he. that he is going Home " to assert my right by. law re the will, of my late uncle (Dr Crump), ahd also 'to contest or force the payment o'f moneys due to myself and my son. Tinder the will of my late cousin (Sylvanus Crump). The suspense, and the belief of my son i and self haying been and being robbed, is more than I can stand. Latterly my head swims over the trouble which' borders on dishonour and disgrace in the opinion of those who do not know me now, I am- thinking- of going to the Old Country and tryiug to. get counsel to take up my case. I am very poor but if. vny case is* successful I shall be only .too pleased in binding myself in presenting counsel a present from myself independent of legal charges, as I haye no money to stump down." In another part of the letter he says he has no friends at Home to help .him" as it woiild be to the disadvantage of relations who are against his mentioning his claim.
