Per Press Association. NAPIER, May 29, A youno- 'married woman named Alice Caroline. . died suddenly on Monday under circumsitanceig that suggested heart trouble. A post, mortem examination, however, disclosed her / heart to be in a healthy state,. and on the suggestion of the doctors the inquest- was ad--ourned to permit the contents of the' stomach to be sent to Wellington for analysis.

NELSON, May 29. In connection .with the fatality at the Slate River claim, Collingwood, to Llewellyn James, details show that- he. was practically drowned. He was working in .a tailrace cut out- of the rock, with sides varying with the height of the race. , - -It had been iked for thirty, years. . One of the sides slipped .in . immediately below James, and a small portion of the debris pinned him'to .the other side. Two nozzles of water were in.full play at the time. The water was dammed'-back, and the race, soon filled to a height of several feet, coveringJames where lis lay. When the body was found only a- few stones covered it, and there' were no marks of violence. James was accorded a Foresters'' funeral. The extreme cold and heavy frosts are believed to be the cause of the race breaking.
