On Dr Thomas' motion,,a vote of thanks was passed to the secretary of the Southland Racing Club, for starting two of the trotting events. The secretary said that Mr Jefferson -had reported that some of Ihe races Jhad to be started under unfavourable conditions, owing to the starting point being close to a turn in the track. The mile start was in a particularly bad position, and he advised that something sho.iild be done to remove* this defect. The secretary suggested that a new length of track be hiid off in line with the .straight,, so that the race could bs started on the straight. 'The matter was referred to the*ground committee. The question of taking steps to obtain a check on the takings at the Temuka gate was also left to the ground committes. Ihe secretary said that owing to some oversight on the part of the press agent at- Christchurch, the weights for the. recent meeting were not telegraphed.
