A WELCOME RAIN,

CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 27.
Rain began to fall in Christchurch at 9 o'clock.' to-day, and still continues. Reports from north and mid-Canterbury ore to the effect that the rain is very general, and will do immense good, as the pastures had suffered from worth-west winds 1 and diy weather/ : . : •:•■•
Our Terauka correnpondent writes:~ The two hours' rain which fell in the Temuka district yesterday was much appreciated by fanners, \rho, though desirouw of much more moisture, assert that the present fall will cool and moisten the ', soil. to a considerable extent. At present indications point-to an unu. ually early .harvest. ' "A splendid and welcome rain fell over Timaru and district yesterday, morning. It will. do l a great amount of good in freshening up gardens and pastures. The afternoon was fine, and-those who regretted! that the fall had not been heavier, must have been pleased to hear the rain falling again last evening. The change' in the weather brought a'ong a rather cold snap for this' time of year, and this was no doubt consequent on the fall of snow on the hilie, - the front ranges showing » good! coating. : u_
