THE LAND TENURE BILL. Received 9A6 p.m., November 27th. LONDON, November 27. In; the House of Lords the Land Tenure Bill was read a first time. . AN ARCHBISHOP'S VIEWS. Received 11.16 p.m., November 27th. LONDON, November 27. The Archbishop of Canterbury, replying to the National Society's deputation who urged that the House of Lords should adhere to its amendments in. the Education; Bill, said that he had endeavoured' to see if the settlement reached -would be what they were entitled in common decency to expect. Unless teachers were allowed to give denominational instruction the nominal offer of facilities embodied in'the Government's Bill was practicably worthless to urban areas. He bad sufficient confidence in the honesty and reasonableness of the supporters of the Bill to believe that the latter would see the hollowness. of the 5 proposed concession, and" if the thing went forward—it was now at large—if they were bound to make their offer real, no- more momentous matter had ever been dealt with in our time.
