TIMARU ROWING CLUB'S BALL.
The 'annuaL ball of. the Timaru Rowing Club was held in St. Mary's schoolroom last evening. A better "night for dancing could scarcely be wished for. The attendance numbered between seventy and eighty couples, all of whom seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves. . The room was most tastefully decorated and the committee are be congratulated- on- their good work arid for the excellent arrangements generally. Rows of streamers were suspended across the room, while the walls prettily draped and profusely covered with an excellent assortment of pictures, kindly lent by Mr W,. Mander.> - -*< The music supplied by Mr Briasco's band was very' highly spoken of and 1 the catering was in the hands of Mr, P. M. Shewan, .wjio apparently pleased' the. tastes of a11.'.--During an interval in the dancing, Mr C. Howard Tripp, vice-president of the Club, presented prizes to the winners of Club races. "In a humorous speech he referred to the successful season which had just gone by and spoke of the Club's strong membership and of the large additions made to the boat shed. A four-oar team visited Oamaru -and again defeated the" home - team on their own waterl They' were represente/1 at Lyttelton and although no prizes were secured, their crews acquitted themselves well. Mr Tripp then presented to the following:—Trial fours—S. Anderson, E. Harold, G. Mansford, ,J. Norrie (stroke). Junior pairs—H. Archer % (bow), and L. Reardon (stroke). Senior*, fours—R. Groves, R.
