LAND FOR SETTLEMENTS.
LOWER CLARENCE VALLEY.

WELLINGTON, February 3. A deputation from the Young New Zealanders' Land Settlement Association has been interviewing the Minister of Lands regarding the subdivision and settlement of about 290,000 acres in the Lower Clarence Valley, of which 30,000 acres are freehold. Mr Waiter Gibson, president of the Association, informed the Minister that the arear once carried 110,000 sheep, and now had only 52,000. Rabbits had overrun it. and if it was, not, settled tttVtoace thfe district would bs devastated: f It was aW good for -fruit-growing. It was suggested that the Government should retab a portion as a State farm for «da~ cational purposes.' The Minister said the Eroposals involved a large expenditure, but e would send experts to report. The deputation., als#, saw- Sir,, Joseph Ward, and a«ked fiiih *» acquire 100 acres! at Psbutara- Bluff for scenic purposes, and preserve the bush on the road' to Bledhehn.
