Considering that a bitterly cold west -wind w;is blowing, there wars a good attendance of spectators, between 200 and 500 being' on "tiis ground: a good proportion being ladies. The following were the officials— Judges. Dr Thomas and Mr G. R. M. •Jones ; starter, Mr Roseingrave ; han'dicap,per, Sir C. A. Jefferson: time-keepers, Messrs F. J. Dunn. W." Martin, and'Maior Lindsay; competitors' stewards, Messrs "D. Shea. j. S. TnrnbTifl and C.. H. Gresspn : secretary. Mr T. H. Bowie • assistant secretary, Mr H. Amos; clerk of course, Major Wright. The following were the results :.
"75yds Handicap. First Heat—G. Gunn (4yds) 1, Ellis (6yds) 2, Martin (2yds) 3. This was well contested, and the finish was 'very close. Time, 7 4-ssec. Second Heat—Culverhouse (syds) 1, W. Gunn. (3yds) 2, Jonas (7yds) 3. An easy win all the way; time 7 3-Eeec. ' Final Heat— Culverhouse 1, Ellis 2. G. Gunn 3; time, 7 5-ssec. 220 yds Handicap—Ellis (11yds)-1, Harold (15yds) 2, Culverhouse: (10yds) 3:. There were eleven starters: , The finish was remarkably close, and .'-there ..-was only a matter of an inch or so between- the three placed men. Time 24 2^ec.-f^ : l% '■ Half Mile Walk entries were received for thisV but only two started.. One pulled out, and leffc^Rowland/;(scrt walking alone. The grass track was in fairly good order; though not very even. J Tie sports com-: menced at 7 o'clock and we.re over well within the hour, without a hitch of any kind.
