WEST AUSTRALIAN GOLD.

DECREASING OUTPUT. A DOUBTFUL FUTURE. United Press Association—Per Electric Telegraph—Copyright. Received 9.45 p.m.. November 29tb. PERTH, November 29. Mr Hoover, principal partner in the Bewick Moreing Company, speaking at a dinner .attended by members of the Ministry, declared that the gold output of the State was decreasing, and that 75 per cent of the output came from less than twenty mines, whose contents were decreasing. At greater depths the ore reserves were only remnants of the rich bodies above the 1200 feet level. Another three or four years would see those mines depleted,. and if nothing was found to replace them the output must fall by at least 400,000 ounces annually. For the State to maintain the greatness of the gold industry more mines must come forward. Over ten thousand rejjfs had been discovered whereof less than 20,000 were. now held. The future lay with low grade mines, which "with improved machinery could be made to pay. He hoped they would not consider him pessimistic. Given liberality to the prospector and fair play to the mine operator, the history of California would repeat itself in West Australia.
