Dr Stanton, Bishop of Newcastle, is seriously ill. LIQUOR BILL. ' The Legislative Council read the Liquor Bill a second time on the voices. Received 0.25 a.m., November 30th. : GERMANY IN THE PACIFIC. Burns, Philip and Co. are advised of the arrival at the Marshall Islands of the steamer despatched to reopen trade with the German possessions m the Pacific. The new regulations are working smoothly, and the treaty is being observed. THE MOTOR CONTEST. MELBOURNE, November 29. The prompters of the motor contests have decided to hold no further trials. With the consent of the competitors they have decided that the first prize, the Dunlop Cup, be inscribed with the performances of the competitors and be handed to the Automobile Club: In the event of any competitor winning it next year it shail become his property. Hobbs Von the blue ribbon and a 30" guinea trophy, and the other four competitors a trophv each.
AUSTRALLAN TRADE MARKS BILL. The House of Representatives is making good progress with the Trades Marks Bill. The clauses dealing with the trade union mark were deleted and the Attorney-Gen-eral submits new clauses. A RETRENCHMENT VOTE. The Senate cut down by £IOOO the vote for maintaining the Government House at Sydney as a residence for the GovernorGeneral. Several New South Wales Senators were absent when the vote was taken.
