The No License Gampaign. THE GUIDING STAR of the No-License party and his scurrilous satellites have exhausted all the information ihcj can collect on this planet of ours—from prehistoric times dcwn to the now famous " Ashburton period."—in propping op the rotten cause of No-LicenSfe; and find it insufficient. Thev are now dangling tha BOGEY MAN FROM MARS before your ey<s. It is surely an insult to the intelligence of the electors of Timarn to have wild parables and imaginary horrors repeated to them night after night. The "King"' of the No-License party has now dropped his claptrap stylo of argument, and has resorted to a system of lying, abuse and libelling. In each successive lecture he flatty cnntradiciH what he said in the previous one. If a respectable citizen has the courage to question his statements he abuses him unmercifully, and he is to figure in the Court before long as the defendant in a LIBEL ACTION. Electors of Tiinaru, pause and consider impassionately for yourselves before being led by these wolves in sheep's clothing who masquerade as the divinelyappointed guardians of human souls, but who by example and precept are worse than infidels. The following are a few of the phrases by which they expect to win vour respect and confidence:—"CHßlST POKING FUN AT THE PEOPLK." " DRINK TILL ALL'S BLUE IN YOUR OWN HOUSE," "HELL WITH THE LID OFF," " FCETID STINKS OF HELL IN THE BACK PARLOUR OF A HOTEL." "THE DEVIL SHAKING HANDS WITH A PUBLICAN." etc., etc. PARENTS AND ELECTORS, if you d« not want your sons and daughters and the rising generation generally contaminated by those demagogues, withdraw the collection box and the hat, and you - will soon see the last of them. They aay Ashburton is prosperous commercially under No-License. The Year Book says Ashburton is six per cent, below the average of the whole colony" in inward trade in merchandise. They say wages 'art- higher under No-License. The Year Book says that the wages of skilled and -unskilled labourers are less under No-Licenser Tbey say that there is no poverty in Ashburton. The Dorcas Society, the Church of England clergyman, and the Roman Catholic priest, have all publicly testified to the existence of poverty in Ashburton. They say that there is an improvement in the character and moral tone of the community under No-License. The Stipendiary Magistrate says the very opposite—that NrtLicense has been the cause of much perjury and a general disregard for the sacredness of the oath. WHO IS TELLING THE TRUTH Those reliable authorities above mentioned, viz.. THE STIPENDIARY MAGISTRATE, THE ROMAN CATHOLIC PRIEST. THE CHURCH OF ENGLAND CLERGYMAN. THE DORCAS SOCIETY AND THE YEAR BOOK or THE RABID FANATICS who preach No-License, including the notorious Prohibitionist, R. Alcorn. Esq., J.P., etc. The number of sly grog cases at present sub judiee should be enough to make those ranters admit the truth. The immorality of the' place is now an open secret, and tragedies have been common. One roan shot his wife on account of her being found on the premises of a sly grog-seller within the Ashburton No-License district, and afterwards committeed suicide. A few Sundays ago another sad. tragedy and suicide took place, almost in the town of Ashburton. The principals in, the Peel Forest infanticide case lived in • Ashburton. Scores of other bad cases of immorality could be mentioned that have not seen the light, of the Magisnnte's Court, bat enough "has been written to show the electors of Timara the real state of affairs in the sister electorate that has tried No-License. The question, therefore, is. which is the, best of the two evils—the WHITE DEVIL you have in the shape of the licensed liquor bar. or the SEVEN BLAGK DEVILS you will assuredly have in the shape of immorality, tragedies and sly groc-shops if No-License is carried. If vou prefer the one WHITE DEVIL to' the SEVEN .BLACK DEVILS, score out the Two Bottom Lines AT THE COMING LOCAL OPTION
