' j At the inquest on t;ie body of John Lane, the co-operative labourer who was killed by a fall of earth on the railway works, tlfeexamination of witness-:-® turned on the question whether ..the methods. of tackling the' steep' fall of the cutting^,where the gange were employed were quite safe. FALL IN A HURDLE RACE-
An unfortunate accident in the first race at Orari yesterday,'JSlr _B. iR. Macdonald being seriously hurt; tWpiiyi his horse falling with him in jumping'a fiurdle. Mr Macdonald was picked up unconscious,, and carried into ii neighbouring house. Medical attention was given, but- : his injury must have" been serious, as he still remained unconscious at the close of the meeting. - His medical .' attendant^ however, looked for an early, improvement; The accident was very much . and throughout the day a of inquiry was made at the secretary's office regarding Mr Macdonald's condition.
