CONCERT AND PRESENTATION.

The Railway Goods Shed, Albury, was, on Fi iday last, filled with a large audience, to listen to the concert in aid of the school funds. The Goods Shed had been screened off with tarpaulins and decorated with evergreens, producing much better accommodation for an entertainment and dance than is obtainable at most country schools. The programme was of a good and varied nature, all the performers meeting with a hearty reception. Items were rendered by Misses Coughlan, Welsh, Brosnahan, and Mitchell, and Messrs Feiens, Rowland, Murray, Buckley, and Hintz; while Misses Hoare, Welsh, and others, shared the accompaniments. Mr Austin, Chairman of the School Committee, presided, and at the conclusion of the Berfoimauce, moved a hearty vote of thanks to the performers, who had so kindly given their services.

• Advantage was taken of the opportunity afforded by the concert, of presenting a handsome illuminated address to Mr J. S. Rutherford, from the Albury settlers, and asking his acceptance of a pifice of silver plate for Mrs Rutherford. Mr Irving made the presentation, and mentioned the great indebtedness of the district to Mr Rutherford for his unfailing kindness, generosity, and interest in its welfare. The chairman also referred to Mr Rutherford's kind heartedness in making a gift to the school of the timber required for the erection of shelter sheds. Mr. .Rutherford, in thanking those assembled for the presentation, stated that he was glad to be able to do. something for the rising generation, in whom he always had, and always would, take a keen interest. Cheers were then given for the recipient, and the audience joined heartily in the singing of "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow." After supper, which was kindly provided by the ladies of the district, the shed was cleared for dancing, which was spiritedly continued till about 3.30 a.m. Mr Couper made a very efficient M.C.
