SUPREME COURT.
Per Press Association. GISBORNE, September 14. A prohibition order having been granted by the Magistrate against an old man,' who employed counsel to oppose the application, an appeal was made to Mr Justice Edwards, who granted a rule nisi on a motion to prevent the order -being put into effect. The order was suspended, pending the hearing'of argument in Auckland.
DUNEDIN, September 14. . Mr Justice Williams gave his decision to-day in an appeal from a decision of Mr C. C. Graham, S.M. A man named Walters had been arrested as a deserter from the British Navy, and while awaiting the result of negotiations with the Admiralty was liberated on bail, his employer (E. F. Lawrence) becoming bondsman. Walters disappeared under circumstances which might imply suicide, and the bail was estreated. The appeal was against that decision. Mr Justice Williams decided that the Magistrate had no power to iet the man out on bail or take a bail bond,, and the appeal was allowed, no costs being asked for.
