o THAMES, Sept-ember 13. A fire last night caused about a hundred .pounds' worth of damage to the premises of the Thames Paint .and Varnish Co.'s premises in Pollen street. The fire started in the office in a mysterious fashion. The promptitude of the bridage saved the building. The insurances are :—ln the Nor..wich Union, £2OO on the stock; £IOO on the machinery; in the v Commercial Union, £ll3 on the building and £IOO on the stock and machinery. HAMILTON, September 14. Speaking at a missionary meeting -here, the Rev. H. Hawkins said: that •.■within the last two days three' Maoris had died within twenty miles of Hamilton from .the practices of a tohunga, and four Jiod died under the same tohunga.during .the previous week.
