A butcher's assistant on his rounds saw her lying in the gutter, but instead of pulling her out, went and informed the sexton of the Sydenham cemetery, who, five minutes afterwards, went to the spot, took her by the arm, and lifted h<jr face from the water, and went and telephoned for the police. Returning to the body, he kept guard on'it, and would not allow anyone
to touch it. When the police sergeant arrived, he informed him that he hid not taken the woman out of the gutter because she was dead, and it was no good doing anythingr The post mortem examination showed that death was unmistakeably due to drowning. A verdict Was returned accordingly, the -jury adding that the butcher's assistant and the sexton oughtto have removed deceased from the water immediately they saw her, and attempted resuscitation. "
