A man named "Scotty" Mclntyre, a .carpenter at Turangarei, was found buried in the mad- up to his neck on Sunday morning. The Maoris cut a channel into the man'and rescued him in a very exhausted condition. He was then taken to the pah, where he was fed and nursed. It is supposed.that in returning after midnight from Taihape his horse fell, and wandering from the road in the dark the man got bogged and was unable to extricate himeslf. He has now -recovered . . NELSON, September 13. Mr Frank Stallard, harbourmaster at Gollingwoodi had a narrow escape on Monday: night. He went out by himself in a small dingy to move a snag that had stranded in the way of an expected steamer, but whilst at work his boat capsized and filled;; He was unable to right it. He hung oil and hailed the steamer, but there was some delay before lie was picked up.
