'» AN UNPROFITABLE TOUR. United Press Association—Per Electric Telegraph—^Copyright. LONDON, September 9. The South African cricket team won thirteen matches and lost three during its tour, which resulted in a loss of £2OOO. CIVIL SERVICE CLUB. The annual meeting of the Civil' Service Cricket Club was held on Saturday night. There were about 15 members present. Mr Morgan, who presided, congratulated the Club on a very successful season last year. Of the 15 matches played, nine were won, three lost, and three drawn. The Club was represented in three representative matches ; in one of these, against Canterbury, Mr Barron made a record score of 119. He also headed the batting and bowling averages this season. The thanks of the Club were due to Messrs Hall-Jones, Marcus, and Captain Wray, for handsome donations to the funds, and to ladies for providing afternoon tea on several occasions.
The balance sheet shows the receipts as £lO 13s; expenditure; £8 15s 3d; balance, in hand £1 17s 9di, a result altogether creditable. The (Sub's playing record showed a much betiler list of wins that those of the other senior clubs.
The report and balance sheet were adopted unanimously. About 20 new members were elected to the club. The election of Officers resulted as follows:.—President, Hon. W. Hall-Jones (re-elected); vice-presidents, Captain Wray, Messrs Marcus, McHutcheson, Verdon; club capiain, Mr Lynch (reelected) ; match captain, Mr Wicksteed (reelected); secretary, Mr Barron; general committee, Messrs Lynch, Wicksteed, Barron, Cotter, Parr, McFarSane, Campbell; match committee, Messrs Lynch, Wicksteed, and Barron; junior ditto., to be arranged by general committee; delegate, Mr Barron.
The subscription was fixed at minimums of 10s and 5s for seniors •ana 1 juniors respectively, as last season. The opening day was left to be fixed by the committee, subject to the weather. The match committee were instructed to find out if a junior competition is to be held in the season, and arrange a. .team. A large quantity of new material is needed, owing to th» increase in membership and the better opportunities promised for practice. The general committee has power to purchase all necessary material. Members expressed themselves much Against the time-wasting custom of giving afternoon tea at local matches. The delegate was 'instructed to bring the matter up at the next meeting of the Association. The matter of arranging practice grounds was left to the general committee', who were authorised to incur necessary expenditure in connection therewith.
A hearty vote of thanks to retiring officers and one to the chairman terminated the meeting.
