ELECTORAL ENQUIRY.
Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, March 22. At the Electoral Commission to-day, a memo, was read from the Telegraph Department stating that the telegram announcing the issue of the writs was received late on the night of November 11th, and delivered to the Registrar early in the morning ot the 12th. The Registrar, who had previously stated that he had received the telegram on the 11th, said that this had been his positive belief until the present moment. Mr Reed, who is acting for complainants, referred to the question asked of the witnesses by the chairman of the Commission on Friday as to whether the taking of a" claim for enrolment to Mr (the Opposition candidate) after the issue of the writs was not intended as a trap. Mr Beed said that the newspapers reports (the correctness of which was not in dispute) had given some people an impression that Mr Haselden intended to condemn the action, although he (Mr Reed) did not gather that impression. ' Mr Haselden said that he did not intend to either condemn or approve the action, and that perhaps "test" would have been | a better word to use than " trap." | The Commission then adjourned till Monday.
