THE REV. MR WALKER'S FIGURES.

Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, March 22. The Rev. E. Walker has taken out the drink bill of the colony. There was a gradual increase in the consumption for the previous five years from £2 19s B£d per head of population in 1896 to £3 10s 3|d in 1901, or lis 4d per head for the quinquennium. Last year this increase was not continued, the" amount being £3 10s 3sd, representing a decrease of eightpence (?). The' gross expenditure for 1901 was £2,922,982, and 1902 £2,953,298, an increase of £30,316. The consumption of spirits was 602,021 gallons, which at £2 per gallon gives £l,Bs 8d per head ; wines, 126,440 gallons, 6s per head; imported beer 201,520 gallons, Is 5-id per head; colonial beer, 7,179,600 gallons, or £1 14s 2d per head.
