The Board of Health has issued regulations on the use of preservatives in food. They are founded on and closely follow the recommendations contained in the -report of the committee appointed by the British Local Government Board to enquire into the subject. A rumc-ur is current here that General Hutton has resigned, owing to political interference with his scheme of reorganisation of the defences. General Hutton emphatically denies that he has any intention to resign. He states that at no period since he assumed the command has there ' been so much hope of a successful issue of his scheme of reorganisation as now.
