COLLISION AT SEA AND LOSS OF LIFE. United Press Association —Per l.lec-iic Telegraph—Copyright. Received i>.4 p.m., March 22nd. NEW YORK, March 21. The City of Taunton, a cargo steamer, collided with the steamer Plymouth, which was carrying 500 passengers, in Long Island Sound during a fog. Six members of the Plymouth's crew were drowned. They were asleep in their bunks. Twelve men were injured. Both steamers have reached New London. Per Press Association. GISBORNE, March 21. An exciting runaway took place this afternoon in the main street. A bolt dropping out caused the hdfse attached to a buggy to take fright. Violent impact with a verandah post resulted in tbe daughter of Mr Johnstone, Clerk of the Court, aged 10. having her leg broken, and other occupants of the buggy, Mrs Sharp and Miss Wren, being much shaken, the latter having her knee injured. The horse with shafts attached continued about 20 yards, scattering the crowd and smashing into Mr Miller's large plate glass window. Behind that was a large mirror, which was ; wrecked, and the show window door wrenched open. Mr Stacey Langford secured the horse and led it out though heavy glass was falling around him. Mr Langford was cut about the legs, but his injuries are not considered serious. WESTPORT, March 21. I Dr H. E. Owen left Karamea for Mokihinui on Wednesday morning, alone, by the rough and dangerous beach route. He should have reached his destination that evening, but nothing has been seen of him since. There is no telegraph communication, and the fact of his being missed was only discovered yesterday. Search parties are out, but so far have discovered no tidings of him. Grave fears are felt for the doctor's safety, as he was slightly ill when leaving. There is just a* chance that he may have returned to Karamea, which is thirty miles from a railway. March' 22. Dr Owen, who had been missing since Wednesday last, while returning by the beach route, was discovered on the beach about high-water mark in a semi-exhausted state, and was conveyed to Westport by a special train. There is every hops of his making a speedy recovery.
