MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD

The monthly meeting of the Mount Peel Road Board was held on Friday. Present: Messrs G. J. Dennistonn (chairB. E. H. Tripp, and O. Scott Thomson.

MfSSheehan, the surfaceman, at Fairlie, wrote re the works on Kand, stating that the contractor was getting on well with his work of easing the grade of the big cutting near Fairlie.

Mr W. Dixon "wrote suggesting that [plans re cjssing road be,left at Fairlie and asked the Board to make some improvement to the road in front of his gate to remove flood water.—Agreed to. The Bank of New South Wales wrote acknowledging receipt of £3lB 13s 6d. The Geraldine County Council wrote asking for information respecting the amount of money paid by the council to the Board for the destruction of small birds.—lnformation supplied. Mr J. Aitken wrote agreeing to look after fords near Raincliff.—Agreed to. Messrs Meason and Marchant wrote agreeing to survey the deviation of roads near Fairile. •

Mrs Freme wrote saying that she would hold the Board responsible for any damage caused to her property by the Board diverting a creek near Raincliff.—Received. The Receiver of Land Revenue informed the Board that £BO 14s 8d had been paid to their account in respect of thirds. The * Union Bank of Australia wrote that £3OO and interest had been paid in on account of the Board, and that £6OO had been placed on fixed deposit for 12 months.

The Department of Roads wrote stating that the £IOO grant for Arundel would lapse on the 30th June:—Tenders to be called for the work.

Mr G. Harper wrote re exchange of reserve for quarry blocks, and a letter was received from the chief surveyor on the same "matter.

Mr F. R. Flatman, M.H.R., wrote stating that the Government had refused to buy the bush section off Mr Mill as a camping -reserve.—Received.

It was resolved to hold a meeting of ratepayers oil Monday, March 17th, r.t 11 a.m., at the Board's Office, to consider the question of closing certain re ads in the Raincliff district. Accounts amounting to £24 12s- 3d were passed for payment. The overseer reported that the contractor was getting on well with the work of regrading . the big cutting near Fairlie. As directed he had met Mr Marchant at Raincliff and assisted him to survey the piece of road there. The. overseer also reported that the work of erecting a stock bridge over the Opuha Gorge to Mr W. Dixon's section, out of thirds accrued, was well in hand. The Board theil rose.
