A meeting of the Waimataitai School Committee was held last evening. Pre : sent —Messrs G. P. Wood (chairman), W. Martin, G. Knowles, H. B. Webster, ivans and Mason. An apology was received from Mr Bowie.

The headmaster reported, that the number of pupils oh the roll was —Boys 211, girls 160, total 371; average attendance 200, 143, total 343. The annual visit of the inspector took place on October 41th, 14th, and 15th, and the school was closed for the remainder of the week. On the following Monday the various classes were promoted, and the work of the new year begun. With regard to a school concert, the matter had been talked over with the teachers, and been taken up very heartily. The committee were pleased to see that the average attendance was on. the increase. The chairman remarked that more accommodation would be required if the increase continued.

The secretary of the Floral Society forwarded a children's prize schedule for competitions open to children attending schools in South Canterbury, and asking for the co-operation of the committee. —Referred to the headmaster for his favourable consideration.

The chairman brought up the matter of insurance on the school buildings. He had seen the secretary of the Education Board, and asked why the committee should have to pay £3 15s insurance per annum. He was then informed that the committee need not insure unless it was let for concerts. He thus saw no reason why the committee should insure, as the building was seldom let.

Members agreed that the expenditure was not necessary, and it was resolved to let the policy of £ISOO lapse. Accounts amounting to £3 9s 6d were passed for payment. Mr Martin was appointed visitor for the month. On the request of the headmaster, the chairman was requested to accompany the visitor, and report to next meeting on the aditions required to the school. The meeting then closed.
