CHRYSANTHEMUM SHOW.

The "Lyttelton Times" states that a late frost on Sunday prevented many-en-tries from coming forward at the Christ - - church chrysanthemum show. The cut blooms are the feature of the show, and they display a degree of excellence never surpassed, if ever-equalled, at previous exhibitions held by the Society. Mr JLewis wins the Blyth Memorial Trophy, the blue riband of the show, with a splendid exhibit of six blooms of Lady Hanham, a salmon sport- from Charles Davis, and he also takes first prize in the - class for six Japanese of one variety the same flower. The stand is a really magnificent one, and the flowers are among ths° best exhibited at the show. The stands for the inter-club competition, naturally form the centre of attraction. Timaru" takes the honours with a score of 70 points as against 65, though it must be admitted that the difference of five porits aught easily have been doubled without attracting hostile criticism. Both are very fine stands of representative blooms, but for score in fulness of bloom, depth ai=d diameter, the winning stand would i e-'.Hy challenge competition anywhere in Anbtralia. It includes the premier, incurvod chrysanthemum of the show, a perfect bloom of the N.C.S. Jubilee. The Christchurch stand has the honour cf including in its ranks the premier Japanese. first of the sentences we quote, indicate that the Timaru show to-morrow ought to be worth seeing, inasmuch as the Timaru entries were the best iEI a. display "never surpassed, if ever equalled," at Christchurch. lie show here to-mir?3\v will be held iij the Assembly Booms, ?nd besides chrysanthemums there will be an exhibition of fruits and a competition in table decoration. The Christchurch Club .wxEJ send down a stand for the inter-club contest, and no doubt other entries -w ill coihe from the Cathedral City.
