The Pleasant Point Public Library held their annual sports at The Pines yesterday. The) weather, which was delightful in the morning, unfortunately changed into a very wet and uncomfortable afternoon, making the outing a very unpleasant one for those who had not thought to make provision for a rainy day, by taking out umbrellas and overcoats. The trees in the park afforded a good shelter, which many availed themselves of. The attendance was not conspicuously good, but would no doubt have been much larger if the weather had kept up. The sports <&js year took the form of horsa races, a
departure which we think dees not meat with the support a general athletic sports meeting would. However, the committee presented a very fair programme, and carried it through with promptitude and energy. The racing as a whole was houest and fair, the trots being perhaps the most interesting, as they were the best supported numerically. The track was a trifle hard, and rough, but did duty fairly well. There were no. accidents, though one of the horses took a violent fancy for the wire fence, rolling over it with his rider, but neither was seriously hurt. Mr J. Murphy had a license and refreshment booth on the ground,! and was fairly well supported. The following are results, of the sports: MAIDEN RACE, of 2 sovs; welter weight for age; 4 furlongs. Mr P. Stratford's Miss Kulnine, lOst 91b I Mr J. O'DriscoU's Tommy, list <1 Mr R. Adams' Nancy list, and Mr J. W. Mee's Miss Chesterman lOst 91b, also started. There was rather a bad start, The Shiner being the only one to get away promptly, and soon establishing a good lead. The first round saw him with a lead the'length of the straight, aind this was never diminished. On the run home Ned had a fair lead from Huntley, but was gradually worn down, Huntley beating him by three lengths. The others were simply part of a procession. A protest was dismissed.
