PICNIC AT WAIKAKAHI.

The Waikakalii settlers celebrated their first picnic on New Year's Day, .and had a great gathering. The soaking, rain on Monday,the day first fixed for the event, and the dullish morning on Tuesday, to some extent interfered with the attendance, but the meeting was a thoroughly lively, harmonious, and pleasant affair. Next to the enthusiasm of the settlers themselves the excellent arrangements made and vigorously carried out by the president, Mr Beer, the secretary, Mr Kennedy, and members of the committee, ensured the complete success of the undertaking. Both gave much satisfaction.
