TIMARU—SATURDAY, JAN. >5, 1900 (Before C. A. Wray, Esq., S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. A first offender, charged with being: : drunk on the express train, was fined 5s- or 24 hours. DRUNK IN CHARGE OF A VEHICLE. , Another first offender was charged with ; being drunk while in charge of a vehicle, and pleaded not guilty. Evidence was given by Constables Weathered and Perniskie, that the accused bolplessly drunk when arrested, and unfit to. have charge of a horse and cart. The accused denied that he was drunk, or that he did any harm, though he might have had a, drop too aiuch. ' An application was alst> made for a-, prohibition order, accused objecting on .the ground that he needed to go into hotels to cash cheques.. 1 Hi 3 Worship fined hist 20s and costs, • and directed the issue- of a prohibition order. INDECEWCY. A man named J. Woisa was charged with indecent exposure. Accused pleaded nei guilty. ■ Sei'geant Green said that the offssiee was alleged to have taken place in the park. A girl, 14<y*ftrs of age, saw- a- man there, and wheifc she was passings near him she noticed, cfie indecency complained of. He called, her, nnd followed her some distance. When she got borne she informed her father, who went to-the park and/saw the ; man there. He-luiil an information at- the police station, and Constables Crawford and Thompson. went out and arrested the accused. Tile only actual evidence was first, tha*> of the girl, who iciteitiKed the man arrotrted as the one who committed the offence,. picking him out frora » number of others, and, second, the fact of his being found fti the park. Evidence to the) above effect was given, and Constable Crawfortf said that the prisoner first gave anot&er name, and t&en that under which ho was charged. The accused said ha first gave a wrong name because he &ad run away from the schooner Enterprise, and he thcmght the police were after him for that. He went to the park to keep. out of the way,' walking up and down in the shade. Saw several people, but did not recollect seeing the girl. The accused said that he could call witnesses as to his character, and His Worship granted a remand till to-day.
