Per Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH. September 13. Samuel Joll who arrived m l*ew Plymouth early m 1842, has died at Waitara. WELLINGTON, SeDtember 13. INVEROAR'iILL, September 13 Mr Edwards, the organiner, who is now m the South, has intimated that the iiift council meeting of the Liberal Federation uf NVw Zealand will be held m Wellington on the 25th i st., for the purpose of appointing officers, drawing up a platform, and making arrangements to carry on the work of the organisation A meeting ofanti Federationists last night under the presidency of the Vlayor, W4B well attended, the theatre being fairly filled. The speakers were Messrs Buxton, Collie, Morris, and Mackley, who all obtained an attentive hearing and were frequently applauded, Mr Collie especially. At the conclusion Mr .]. L. Mcdonald proposed " That a vote of thanks be sceordrd the speakers and that m the opinion of this meeting the question of Federation is of such vast importance to the colony that it requires to he more fully discussed before any definite conclusion is arrived at." Mr J. P. Joyce proposed an amendment " That m the opinion of this meeting the advanced legislation of thia colony has been most beneficial : that its further extension would be checked and its administration seriously hampered by the proposed centralization ; and finally that to sacrifice the independence New Zealand now enjoys would be a grave and irretrievable error." The amendment was declared carried on the voices, but was lost on the show of hands, and the motion waa carried,
