Prime beef is quoted at 16s to 17s per 1001b, inferior and medium 12s 6d to 15s. Steers sold at £4 17s6dto £8 ss, heifers £3 17s 6d to £6 15s, and cows £3 12s 6d to £6 ss. In dairy cattle the "better classes met a fair sale at £5 to £7, others were hard to quit at £2 10s to £4 10s. In store cattle practically nothing was done. SHEEP. In sheep freezing wethers rose Is a head. Best wethers sold at 12s 6d to 13s 6d, medium 11s to 12b, maiden ewes IDs to 11s 6d, young do 8s 9d to 10s, fullmouthed do 7s to 8s 6d, inferior 5s 9d to 6s 9d. About 2500 fat lambs came forward, including some very good, lines of freezers, and as buyers for export were operating freely this class brought 9s 9d to Us 9d, medium trade sorts 7s 9d to 9s, and inferior 6s 6d to 7s 6d. Between 12,000 and 15,000 store sheep came to hand, the bulk being breeding ewes. Good forward turnip wethers sold at 9a 9d to 10s 9d, backward do 7s to 9s, best 2-tooth breeding ewes 7s 9d to 8s 6d, inferior do 5s to 6a 9d, best 4 and 6-tooth do 8s 6d to 10s 6d, inferior do 6s 6d to 7s 6d, best 6 and 8-tooth do 6s to 7s, inferior do 4s 9d to 5s 9d, aged and culled do 2s lid to 3s 9d, good forward store lambs 7s 6d to 9s, medium do 5s to 7s, culls and small tussock do 3s to 4s 9d. PIGS. Prime lots met good competition, well finished baconers and porkers averaging 3£d per lb. Stores were in good request.
