FOOTBALL.
The following will play for Timaru Ist against Temuka at Temuka on Thursday next :— Kapsey, Boys (2), Bilton, Buchanan, HeJean, Poison, Gardner, Ker, Chisholm, Wright, Hall, Taylor, (J. Macintosh, Worry; emergency— J. Ma<:intosh. The Seconds will play a match against the High School on Thursday nt 4 o'clock, and the following will play :— Conn, Mason, Heron, Price, Hobbs, Schofield, Lightband,McCullough, Berry , Rutherford, Creemer, Mahan, Ziesler, Anderson, and Macintosh. The match will be played on the High School grounds. The match Temuka Juniors v. Timaru Woollen Factory, was played m the park, Ternuka, on Saturday last, resulting m a win forTemuka by 8 points (2 tries and a goal) to the "Woollen Factory's 6 pointfe (2 tries). The ground was very slippery, making play difficult. Mr 0. Meredith was referee. The Waihi Ist v. Temuka Ist met for the second time this season m a cup match on the Winchester ground on Saturday afternoon. The weather was lovely, but the ground was m parts covered with snow. The attendance was very fair, including several ladies. Mr J. P. Kalaugher controlled the game m the first spell and Mr T. Hart m the second, and both showed themselves quite capable. Early m the first spell Coles gained a try for Waihi, which A. Shallard failed to convert. On resuming play G. South showed up with a fast run* and passed to A. Bhallard, who carried the ball nearly over the line. Temuka then
forced down. Waihi still continued to make all the play and gained % mark well within range of Temuka goal, but the kick proved unsuccessful. A fine run by A. Shallard ended m a neat pass to Guy McDonald, who easily gained a try. The angle was a difficult one but A Shallard placed a beautiful goal. On kicking off G. South carried the ball nearly the entire length of the ground, and A. Shallard made a good but unsuccessful pot at goal. Temuka again forced down. F. Shallard then made a fine pass to A Shallard, who m turn passed to G. Blisset who gained a third try, and A. Shallard again placed an unmistakeable goal. tVaihi 13 points, Temuka 0. This closed the first spell. In the second spell the ball was at once rushed to the Temuka 25, where it remained the most of the time. I. Henderson gained a try for Waihi, but the kick did not succeed. Anderson for Temuka made a fine run, bnt the ball was worked back immediately, and Temuka forced down. Shortly before time was called F. Shallard passed to Guy McDonald, who gained a try, from which Simpson kicked a neat goal. Time was then called, leaving Waihi victorious by 21 points to 0. The Waihi played a splendid game, the most noticeable feature being the fine passing of the backs, and the strong rushes of the forwards. For Temuka Russell and Anderson played a fi;-st class game, but were badly supported by the others.
