TROTTING ASSOCIATION.
(By Telegraph.) OHRISTCHURCH, July 15. A special meeting of the Canterbury Metropolitan Trotting Association was held to-day to consider the action of the Auckland Trotting Club with regard to the Edwards and Mcßride disqualifications. With regard to the former the chairman said that he did not receive from the Auckland Club till after a delay of seven weeks a reply to his letter of May 23rd. The reply was most unsatisfactory, affording no explanation why the disqualified persons were allowed to take part m the club's meeting. It was resolved— 1 ' That this association having carefully considered the explanation re Edwards' case, as conveyed m the letter from the secretary of the Auckland Trotting Club under date July 6th, decide to suspend the operation of rule 7a so far as that club is concerned till further notice." The effect of this will be that all owners, riders, drivers, and horses taking part at the Auckland Trotting Club's meetings, or meetings under their rules, will be disqualified from taking part m any trotting meeting held under the rules of the Canterbury Metropolitan Association. It was resolved that a copy of the resolution, reports of the meeting and all correspondence m connection with the case should be forwarded to the Colonial Secretary. With regard to Mcßride's case the chairman said that the Auckland Trotting Club had disqualified Mr Mcßride on May 10th, but did not advise the association till 12 days afterwards, when on the eve of a meeting a telegram was received announcing the disqualification for using improper language m connection with the officials. This did not accord with the resolution appearing m the Auckland Herald and Sporting Review, ana he wrote on May 23rd asking if the proceedings were correctly reported, and if not where they differed from the facts. After about seven weeks' delay he received a reply that the newspaper reports were incomplete and conveyed a wrong impression, but no reply to the very explicit enquiry as to where they differed. After referring to the circumstances at some length the chairman moved:— "That this Association see no reason to take action m regard to Mr Mcßride's disqualification by the Auckland Trotting Club." The motion was carried.
